Welcome to the Delaney Rose blog...

Delaney was born January 27, 2010 at 3:09 pm on a snowy Gunnison day. She was 14 weeks premature and weighed 1 pound 15 ounces. We survived 80 days in Grand Junction at St. Mary's NICU, and finally made it home the third week in April. We created this blog while living in GJ so that our friends and family could stay up to date on Delaney's progress. We plan to maintain the site and post when we can, so please enjoy!

Spring Break in Tucson AZ

For Spring Break the Three Blonds hopped into the truck with their Nanny (Jennifer's mother) and took a 14 hour road trip to Tucson Arizona. It was a week of fun and adventure that will not soon be forgotten.... Upon arrival in Tuscon we were graciously greeted with warm cookies and milk by Granddad (who flew into Phoenix) and Uncle Buck who traveled from California with his lovely girlfriend Heather. They had checked into the timeshare ahead of us and filled the fridge with delicious food. We spent the the next few days hanging out at the pool enjoying the sun and even took a St. Patrick's day hike through Honey Bee Park. Our adventures took a devastating blow when a cold front moved through the state and brought snow to the Tucson area (yes, it snowed!).  It was a good thing that the Colorado Rockies tickets for a spring training game were refundable because the game was cancelled due to the terrible wind and rain.  We rallied together and tried not to let the inclement weather get us down and decided to visit the Biosphere 2 and the Xavier Mission.  One of our best days was spent at the Chantilly Tea Room (thank you Heather for the great idea).  The girls got to dress up fancy to enjoy PB and J sandwiches and drink hot cocoa from special tea cups that they picked out (it was tons of fun even for the adults).  As the weather warmed we found ourselves at the park and sunning ourselves at the pool once again.  In the evenings we ate delicious dinners and enjoyed each others company while we played games.  Uncle Buck even surprised his big sis with an ice cream cake to celebrate her belated-birthday along with his up coming "happy day" (he'll be 30 on March 28th).  What a week to remember!

**Special Note** Our trip to Tuscon was not only made special by our family members who traveled there....  We had the added benefit of vacationing where our dear friends live (what a treat).  The Southall's moved to the Oro Valley several years ago from Gunnison.  They live and work only a couple of minutes from the timeshare and luckily had the same week off for spring break that we did.  Meredith and Courtney spent hours in the pool and Meredith had several sleep overs at Courtney's house.  Leave it to Audra to take care of us and bring us delicious cinnamon rolls, Rice Crispy treats, and various other vacation necessities.  Jennifer was able to spent a few precious hours catching up and laughing with her dear friend.  We had a wonderful dinner out and Audra took us all to some wonderful restaurants for lunch.  It seemed as if we had never been separated by many miles and so much time.  Our hearts were saddened on the day we left and it was hard to hold back the tears.  We hope that in the near future these wonderful friends will make it back to our neck of the woods.

Thank you everyone for making it a wonderful spring break!

Dr. Visit

Spring is at our door, so naturally it's time to start spending more time with the winter-fat equines. Today was a special day indeed, and we enjoyed a nice visit with some special friends from Grand Junction. Fortunately for us, one of Delaney's NICU doctor's & her family & friends like to come and ski at Crested Butte. They showed up for spring break so Jennifer arranged a picnic up at our horse pasture. The kids had a blast feeding, brushing & riding double on Molly and Sky. It was definitely Molly's lucky day- a little exercise followed by apples & licorice treats! Dr. Garmany got to sit a horse for the first time...she looked like she was born there. Looking forward to next time; hope you guys have a great week.

(We haven't had the time to post some of our adventures from the past few weeks but managed to finally include some. So, scroll down and enjoy!)

Birthday Buddies

Jennifer and her friends have tried to make it an annual tradition to have a birthday dinner. They all have birthdays within several weeks of one another so it makes a good excuse to go out. Have a great year ladies.

X-Country Skiing

As part of Jennifer's birthday festivities we geared up and had a family cross-country ski day.  Meredith showed us what a rockstar she is on skis after spending several weeks in a ski class in Gunnison. It's impressive what our six year old can do.  She is sure getting big and strong. Brandon showed the family how not to ski, and provided the entertainment with some epic spills.  It was an awful good day.  The mini-blond better enjoy her ride because it won't be long before she's grinding up hills with her sister.

Mommy's Happy Day

Jennifer loves her birthday, so it was a bummer that we ended up celebrate a day late. Brandon's antelope trap was rescheduled due to bad weather, and of course it fell on Jennifer's birthday. That made her blue, but we tried to have a nice belated celebration the day after Brandon got home. Work can sometimes be a royal pain, and hopefully this will be the last time our schedules interfere with a birthday. Happy Day (as Delaney would say) Mommy!  You're in your prime.
