Just when you think you're in the clear, your micro-preemie trips and knocks a big hole in her head. Now if Delaney was a boy it probably wouldn't have been a big deal, but girls are girls and girls apparently don't think scars are cool. Thus, Jennifer made an impromptu trip to the ER last night to figure out whether to stitch or not. At the ER they decided to glue her wound and now we're at the early stages of scar management. Time to start building the padded room for these hooligans.

Welcome to the Delaney Rose blog...
Delaney was born January 27, 2010 at 3:09 pm on a snowy Gunnison day. She was 14 weeks premature and weighed 1 pound 15 ounces. We survived 80 days in Grand Junction at St. Mary's NICU, and finally made it home the third week in April. We created this blog while living in GJ so that our friends and family could stay up to date on Delaney's progress. We plan to maintain the site and post when we can, so please enjoy!

Big Girl Undies
We've made some progress recently with Delaney's potty training. She got pretty excited when her mom broke out the little girl undies. Now it's a matter of rewarding her for using the potty and keeping it fun. A few accidents for sure, but progress is progress and we're now on the third tier of our reward program- Skittles. No diapers is sure a pleasant prospect.

A Day With Special Friends
Happy Birthday Transformer Sam. This weekend we had a fun visit with our recently displaced friends, The Thorpes. They now reside in the San Luis Valley, but pushed north to celebrate their little boy's birthday with local friends and relatives. Young Sam enjoyed some time scammin' on Meredith. Just like old times.

Daddy's "Happy Day"
Brandon's birthday isn't the biggest holiday of the year around here, but the three blondes made sure to treat him right throughout the week. The small Delaney learned a lot about birthdays this January and now enjoys everybody elses "Happy Day". She was a big help blowing out the old man's candles, and prematurely opening his presents.

100th Day of School
Toady marks the 100th day that Meredith has been in school as a Kindergartner. We have been preparing for the day by completing several assignments.... Our first one was to venture to the store and purchase a snack item for her to include in a 100 piece trail mix (we picked marshmallows). The second assignment was to count out 100 of something at home and then bring it to school. Meredith wanted to make a necklace, so she used the 100 grid to count out pearl beads and then strung them on some string to make a beautiful necklace. We've had tons of fun!

Just like her Big Sis...
These pictures pretty well speak for themselves. Delaney was quite a site on her first day of dance class. She seems to really enjoy music (just like Meredith), and is always running around the house dancing and singing. Monday was her first formal dance class. She was a little nervous being on her own with the group, but hopefully she'll enjoy it more over time. Lately we find ourselves falling even more behind in life; hopefully someday the small blonds will look back and thank us for all the wonderful opportunities they've had!

Delaney's "Happy Day"...
We probably say it too much, but it is unreal how time flies. Little D has gone from micro-preemie to a thriving two year old in what seems like the blink of an eye. Although our lives seem to be in a constant state of chaos, there is always time to celebrate special birthdays. Delaney sure seems to understand what her birthday is all about and everybody had a great day. The birthday monsters spent some more time at our house while we were out and rearranged the girls' bedroom. Delaney enjoyed her lunch at Mario's, and then we headed for our favorite local toy store, The Circus Train, for a special birthday gift (giraffe beanie baby). After dinner she opened her presents and then feasted on her moms special lady bug cupcakes. Thanks to all of you that have helped make her first two years so special. We're looking forward to many birthdays to come!

24 Month Check Up
Bad timing on her birthday week. Little D had her check up the other day and had all sorts of grief. Not only did she have her latest booster shots, but we were also told that she's still too little to turn her carseat around (she's been staring at the back seat for two years now). She came in at 21.8 lbs and 33 inches, which doesn't make the cutoff to face forward. Tomorrow is her birthday so things are bound to get better!
