Welcome to the Delaney Rose blog...

Delaney was born January 27, 2010 at 3:09 pm on a snowy Gunnison day. She was 14 weeks premature and weighed 1 pound 15 ounces. We survived 80 days in Grand Junction at St. Mary's NICU, and finally made it home the third week in April. We created this blog while living in GJ so that our friends and family could stay up to date on Delaney's progress. We plan to maintain the site and post when we can, so please enjoy!

Sunday May 30

Oops! We forgot to post our weekly pics. Actually, we spent yesterday out in one of our favorite high country haunts doing some spring exploration. Other than the wind it was a beautiful day and we had a good time. It became a little bit of an ordeal (a story for a different time) with the truck getting stuck and a tire that exploded a little while later...but we survived. It was sure nice to get out of the house as a family unit.
Last week Delaney had her second doctor's appointment since we've been back in Gunnison. She weighed 7 lbs 10.5 oz and we weaned her oxygen down to 1/16 of a liter. She continues to do a really good job, but our main issue continues to be her blood pressure. Brandon had a long talk with the cardiologist in Grand Junction who seemed to think that we should keep an eye on it and focus on the trend over time. If her pressure starts increasing we should look deeper into it, but otherwise try not to get too worried. Apparently blood pressure medications for babies have some significant down sides and they are not prescribed unless absolutely necessary.
We recently learned that family of family is having some issues with their pregnancy that likely will entail a stay in a NICU and emergency surgery. We would like to send them our good thoughts, and can say with some experience that modern day medicine is quite miraculous. It's easy for others to say, but try and hang in there.

  1. Hello Gunnison Diamonds!

I look forward to the pictures and blog post every weekend. Of course, I was tickled to see Delaney wearing her "Aunt Holly" heart suit! I received the DVD late last week. I have not yet watched it. To be honest, I am a bit nervous.

Things are okay here in Oregon. We had two weeks of uncharactoristically beautiful sunny weather, and then the past two weeks the rain has been back. The family was able to BBQ today for the holiday weekend.

I am scheduled to participate in my first triathlon next Sat June 5th. I can do the 1/2 mile swim and then the 12 mile bike ride, but have trouble with the final 3.2 mile run in the end. Eric had signed up with me as a relay team to do the running leg, but injured some important leg muscles. I am trying to push myself to do the whole thing myself, but I just don't feel ready. To make things worse, I am struggling with more weight gain in the past 4-6 weeks, contrary to all the exercise I have been getting. Getting older stinks!

Oh well, I guess that is TMI for most of you. Just wanted to keep you in the loop. I love all four of you most dearly!
