Welcome to the Delaney Rose blog...

Delaney was born January 27, 2010 at 3:09 pm on a snowy Gunnison day. She was 14 weeks premature and weighed 1 pound 15 ounces. We survived 80 days in Grand Junction at St. Mary's NICU, and finally made it home the third week in April. We created this blog while living in GJ so that our friends and family could stay up to date on Delaney's progress. We plan to maintain the site and post when we can, so please enjoy!

World Prematurity Day

Did you know that today is the first-ever World Prematurity Day?   Premature birth is a very large problem around the world, so the March of Dimes and partner organizations around the world will focus their attention on the global issue of premature birth.  Surprisingly, the United States has one of the highest infant mortality rates of any developed country and more than half a million babies are born prematurely each year (today more than 1,400 babies in the United States will be born prematurely).  That's why the month of November is Prematurity Awareness Month and why we should remember the million babies worldwide who died this year because they were born too soon and think about the 12 million more who struggle to survive.

Delaney is here today thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses at the St. Marys Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and because of the professional education and medical resources that the March of Dimes has provided.  Thank You!
