Welcome to the Delaney Rose blog...

Delaney was born January 27, 2010 at 3:09 pm on a snowy Gunnison day. She was 14 weeks premature and weighed 1 pound 15 ounces. We survived 80 days in Grand Junction at St. Mary's NICU, and finally made it home the third week in April. We created this blog while living in GJ so that our friends and family could stay up to date on Delaney's progress. We plan to maintain the site and post when we can, so please enjoy!

Delaney and her Big Girl Bed!

First she took a few naps in Mimi's bed.....
Then she spent several afternoons and evenings on an air matress....
And then while she was at school Dadddy and Mimi
put together her very own Big Girl Bed!
Now she loves sleeping like a Big Girl in her new bed!

Another Gymkhana

The second Gymkhana of the summer. As you can see from some of the pictures, Meredith has taken the next step and pretty much went through this one on her own. Brandon rode in front of her to help guide Molly the mule, but Meredith was at the helm otherwise. This time, a few new events showed up, including a goat-tying event. The younger kids (7 & under) had to ride up to the goat and untie a ribbon from it's tail. We let Merry ride Sky for that event because Molly had blood in her eye once she saw the goat (mules are not to be taken lightly when they get in defense mode, and Molly hasn't seen many goats in her day). Can't wait to see Merry actually flank the goat and tie it up in a few years; then we'll know we have a stockwoman on our hands.

Delaney calls this a "Hikie Hike"

Never a dull moment around here. Seems like the summer is flying by. Enjoy some pics from some recent family events.

Delaney's First Day of Preschool

The wee blond finally started going to preschool one day a week and she absolutely loves it. Little sister has been watching big sister go to school for a long time now and she finally got her chance to experience it first hand. It's a lot of fun to get Delaney up early in the morning and see how happy she is before she heads out. For now, Delaney is a morning person, unlike her sister that seems to be on the grouchy end of the spectrum (that is, unless we're going on a horseback ride). Keep up the good work little-D, you have a lot of school ahead of you.

The Windy & Dusty Gymkhana

The first of two Gymkhanas this summer and boy was it hot and dusty. The horrendous drought is making everything miserable and after today we all have a good case of brown lung from all the dust. Meredith started off riding Molly the mule this go-round, but switched midway through to Grandma Sky horse. We're still working through the events on a lead-line but Merry is on the verge of reining through on her own. Gymkhanas are a lot of fun; we just wish there were more of them throughout the summer so that we could get more practice in. There are usually a variety of events, from barrel racing to the egg race (have to race your horse to the finish line without dropping your egg). Merry did a great job- it's amazing how far she's come recently with her confidence around equines.
